Community Challenge

Alexandria has seen major growth in youth sports participation and recreation over the last fifteen years— from 3,500 annual participants in 2005 to over 15,000 in 2022. Alexandrians are healthier and happier than ever, in part because of this increase in activity.

We have reached a point where the inventory of available athletic field & court space in our community no longer meets the needs of children and adults interested in recreation programs, both school and club related. The shortfall is over 5,000 hours annually of quality safe places to play.

Community Solution

Over the past 10 years ASA has advocated for and helped develop safe places to play around the Alexandria community. Additionally, we have worked to improve upon our current facilities and ensure soccer is accessible to all kids who want to play by hosting programming at parks, fields, courts and schools in every corner of the community.

The support of community stakeholders, alongside our team at ASA, has helped increase play space for youth and adults alike.

Facility Improvements

Over the past decade ASA has advocated for improvements, helped fund projects at our City owned facilities, and purchased soccer goals (44 small sided goals, 6 full size goals) for both ASA & public use.

Bench Shelters

In 2024 ASA invested in bench shelters at Witter Fields. The shelters professionalize our most highly trafficked fields and provide protection from sun, rain and inclement weather for teams while playing games.

Witter Netting

In 2022 ASA contributed the funds to purchase and install 30 foot netting for Witter Field. This netting helps eliminate soccer balls leaving the complex and keeps kids from crossing the street.
