Key Focuses

  • Core strength & balance
  • Explosive speed & power
  • Reaction time & quickness 
  • Proper technique to adjust muscle memory for optimal performance
  • Introduction to physical routines that prevent injury

Key Focuses by Age

  • Introduction to performance training
  • Emphasis on relationship of physical performance to soccer and futsal
  • Recommended equipment: Jump Ropes, Agility Ladders, Agility Hurdles, Box Jumps.
  • Note: groups at this age will spend 30 minutes doing specific physical performance development and 30 minutes playing physically demanding games that involve a ball
  • Introduction to performance training
  • Emphasis on progression in performance training (i.e., one leg movements, complex movements). Recommended equipment: Jump Ropes, Agility Ladders, Agility Hurdles, Box Jumps
  • Further progression in performance training
  • Drills begin to include external resistance and focus on movements that occur in game. Recommended Equipment: Agility Ladders, Box Jumps, Loop Resistance Bands (1:3), Handle Resistance Bands (1:3) Medicine Balls

  • Class Length: 4:30-5:30 (1 hour)
  • 5 Sessions (select day at checkout):
    • Mondays: October 18, 25, November 1, 8, 15
    • Wednesdays: October 20, 27, November 3, 10, 17
  • Class Size: Groups of 8-12 participants for maximum individual development & growth
  • Financial Aid: $45 price available to those who qualify

Trainers

Matt Curtin

Matt Curtin is an ISSA and NESTA certified personal trainer. His previous strength/conditioning experience includes personal training at XSport Fitness in Alexandria and strength and conditioning camp director at Catholic Central High School in upstate New York. He is in his third season with ASA as an Academy coach with the U9/U10 age group and in his second season with the ID program at the U10/U11 age group.

Michael Presley

Michael Presley is an ISSA certified personal trainer and nutrition coach. He graduated from James Madison University with a bachelor's degree in exercise science where he worked designing and implementing workout plans for a number of JMU's athletic teams, including men's and women's soccer. He is currently training at XSport Fitness in Alexandria as well as Urban Athletic Club in Washington, D.C.
